In the medieval pattern known as Millefleur, the species chosen for illustrations were selected for their symbolic qualities. In this modern version, Dartmoor motifs of Dog-roses, ferns, the Three Hares, and the Green Man symbolise pre-modern ideas of fecundity, sanctuary or renewal.
